The original iteration of Arne Jacobsen’s AJ Lamp was designed in 1960 as a pendant lamp for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Jacobsen’s floor lamp version of the AJ is now available in updated colors, introduced to celebrate the lamp’s 50th anniversary in 2010. The AJ Floor Lamp emits downward directed light, making it ideal as a reading lamp next to a sofa or chair. The angle of the shade can also be adjusted to optimize light distribution. The shade’s interior is painted white to ensure soft, comfortable light. The AJ Floor Lamp has a zinc base and a spun steel shade. It requires one 15W A-19/medium or E26 60W LED bulb (not included) and measures 51.2” tall with a 10.8”-wide base. It weighs 8lbs and is powered by a standard plug-in. Arne Jacobsen and the lamp’s manufacturer, Louis Poulsen, are both represented in MoMA’s collection.
