In the late 1930s, architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller designed the Aarhus City Hall, in Aarhus, Denmark, which was inaugurated in 1941. The original design of the building did not include a clock tower—Jacobsen felt that such towers had no real function—which led to a public outcry. The two architects capitulated and added a 197-foot tower, featuring an elegant Roman Clock, which this watch is based on. Arne Jacobsen’s work is represented in MoMA’s collection.
