Description

A collaboration between Korean-American artist Hannah Sung and Projects Watches, the Dancheong Watch is named after a traditional Korean painting technique—decorative coloring used on wooden buildings and artifacts. (In Korean, it literally means “cinnabar and blue-green.”) The face of the watch features Sung’s interpretation of patterns seen on wooden buildings from Korea’s Joseon Dynasty. The ancient style of dancheong is based on five colors: blue, white, red, black and yellow (colors that Sung has incorporated into her design). The method of using these five colors is related to the yin and yang principles, as well as the philosophy of the five elements. Time is displayed on the face of the Dancheong Watch in a way that won’t detract from the pattern: a green dot representing the hour and an orange dot indicating the minutes. The water motif on the watch’s face moves as time goes by, continuing “to flow like nature and memories.” The Dancheong Watch is made from stainless steel and leather, has a 40mm case and a strap that measures 9l x .5"w.
