This Joan Jonas Rachel Comey Fringe Tote, a collaboration between the groundbreaking contemporary artist and the independent fashion designer, helps mark the opening of Joan Jonas: Good Night Good Morning at MoMA. Comey, who pays tribute to Jonas with her Spring 2024 collection, says, “She crosses between all different media, from performance to drawing to installation.”  A poster for the 1976 installation, The Juniper Tree, inspired the design of this embroidered and fringed cotton bag which was made in New York City, where both women call home.

Joan Jonas is a visual artist who creates meditations on bodies, space, time, and nature. Her projects from the late 1960s to early 1970s were influential in the creation of video performance art as a medium. Rachel Comey is a fashion designer known for her intellectual approach to clothing, shoes, and accessories.
