Pop artist Keith Haring created work that has often been characterized as quintessential 1980s NYC street art—and his subway drawings are among his most well-known artworks. He executed them with white chalk on the station’s black matte paper spaces, which covered expired ad subscriptions. Haring rode the subway looking for these blank canvases, jumping out to draw quickly before leaving on the next train.
Each of these watch styles, a collaboration with Timex, reproduces elements from Haring’s 1981 chalkwork Subway Project. (Each sold separately.)
The Easy Reader riffs on Haring’s flying clock motif, with the numbers 12, 3, 6,9 and hands rendered in chalk-like outlines. Features include:
