What started out as a project to clean plastic from Amsterdam’s canals in 2015 has turned into an international initiative with the WasteBoards Skateboard. WasteBoards are made from post-consumer-waste plastic bottle caps, the majority of which are purchased from KNGF Geleidehonden (Royal Dutch Guide Dogs Foundation). KNGF collects the caps to raise money to train their dogs.
The caps are manually sorted and cleaned in sheltered workshops and then placed in a heated mold to form the board. WasteBoards are produced in the Netherlands and the idea of the WasteBoard project is for other countries to start their own WasteBoards bakeries, thus creating jobs and removing plastic waste from the environment.
Around 800 caps are used per skateboard and each WasteBoards Skateboard is a one-of-a-kind design. Wheels and trucks are included. It measures 5h x 28.35w x 7.5”d.
